PAL is the vertical distance between the centerline of the power input flange and the centerline of the propeller.
The power‑transmission capacity of an azimuth thruster depends on its maximum input torque. The actual operating input torque may be affected by the thruster’s application mode, prime‑mover type and vessel type. Please consult our technical personnel prior to selecting an azimuth thruster model.
The rated output torque Mp of the prime mover (typically diesel engine, hydraulic motor or electric motor) is an important parameter for correct azimuth‑thruster selection. The calculation formula is shown below:
Mp≤Sf·MR
| Mp= |
|
Sf=fz×fl×fo×fs
Mp: Prime‑mover output torque
Sf: Azimuth thruster safety factor
MR: Azimuth thruster rated input torque
N: Prime‑mover output power
N: Azimuth thruster input speed
According to general operational safety‑factor requirements, each azimuth thruster has its specific allowable design torque. Based on our years of practical experience, this design torque shall not be used as the final basis for azimuth‑thruster selection; various service operating conditions must be carefully considered. Therefore, the conventional torque design safety factor Sf shall be selected as follows:
The safety factors for azimuth thrusters manufactured by Suzhou Cosc Marine Machinery Co.,Ltd. generally comply with the classification society requirements for normal navigation. For ice‑class reinforced azimuth thrusters, the safety factor shall range from 0.33 to 0.67. The selection of azimuth thrusters with special installation requirements must be confirmed by Suzhou Cosc Marine Machinery Co.,Ltd.
